Commissioned by the Zildjian Company, Michael Burritt’s Streaming is for percussion soloist and four player percussion ensemble. I needed a piece to play with percussion students when I went to schools to visit – so, I asked Mike if he would be interested in writing a piece and Zildjian was kind enough to support the project. Among other instruments, the soloist plays an array of cymbals. Mike intentionally left the decision of the exact types, sizes and sounds of the cymbals to be determined by the soloist. I chose an array of sounds – however, I was specific in my decisions and for each section of the piece. See the MUSIC SECTION to learn more about what cymbals I chose and why.
Pictured above is the University of TN Martin Percussion Ensemble with the Director of Percussion, my good friend Julie Hill – this was the 3rd performance of the piece. Below is the Michigan State University Percussion Ensemble, Directed by another great friend, Gwen Burgett Thrasher.
