Instruments & Sticks
Throughout my travels, I’ve come across a variety of unusual and special percussion instruments. These photos represent some of the instruments I was able to photograph. Throughout my career with the Florida Philharmonic, whenever we had an unusual instrument to find, I always thought “what do other orchestra’s do for this instrument?” Well, here are some answers. Also included, my personal collection of instruments and sticks/mallets.
New World Symphony

On a visit to the UK, I went to Bell Percussion - an amazing collection of instruments! They supply most of the London orchestra’s with rental equipment Jingling Johnnie gongs -
Metropolitan Opera
When I was playing extra at the Metropolitan Opera, I took photos of some of the unusual instruments in there percussion rooms. There were several room that had some amazing drums. Their collection is huge
Janissary Instruments
I saw this bass drum at PASIC 2009 and had to photograph it. It’s a replica of a Janissary Bass Drum - exactly what I’d use for Mozart/Haydn and some Beethoven Played with a stick
Royal Academy UK
This little timpani blew me away. It was in a glass case in one of the practice rooms. Note the size of it compared to my thumb. They also had an original Mozart table.
