Percussionists from all over Florida met at the Naples Percussion Summit to perform a concert of percussion music with guest artists and clinics. This is truly a unique and special event and I was thrilled to be a part of it! I was invited due to my long history with Florida and being a member of the Florida Philharmonic for so long.
The first half of the program included percussion ensemble pieces Raptures of Undream by Bruce Hamilton, Canticle No. 1 by Harrison, Stained Glass by Gillingham and Bonham by Rouse. This year, the guests were Danny Seraphine from the band Chicago and marching great Jeff Queen – the second half featured both of them and included a Jeff Queen Tribute and the Downfall of Paris featuring Jeff. Also, Chicago tunes Make Me Smile, Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is?, I’m a Man and 25 or 6 to 4 with Danny on drums. Percussionists from the Naples Philharmonic, FSU, the Florida Orchestra and the Jacksonville Symphony were all part of it.
