The University of Connecticut Percussion Ensemble presented their Spring concert – Keith Aleo Director,  Tom Reaves and Nate Gworek Graduate Assistants.   Repertoire was:

Strange Loops by Patrick Long
Intentions – Eugene Novotney
Pegasus – Ben Wahlund (John Schauster soloist)
Mother Goose Suite – Ravel, Arr. Cobas
Catching Shadows – Ivan Trevino
Bonham – Christopher Rouse (Will Trautmann soloist)

Some info about the program:

I placed the different movements of Intentions throughout the program; using each movement as a “break” between bigger pieces.   Intentions is an excellent piece musically and is a wonderful teaching tool for the “Complimentary” Percussion instruments (triangles, tambourines, Bass Drums).   Also, Intentions has very little set up.  Thanks Eugene for a fantastic piece!   See how I did the programing in the below photo.   The 3rd movement is for music stands!

I love Ivan Trevino’s music!   If you direct a percussion ensemble, I would highly suggest you check out his music.  LINK:   Ivan Trevino

Patrick Long’s Strange Loops is a great opener, super intense drumming – check out his website.   LINK:   Patrick Long

Also, Ben Wahlund is a great composer and a close friend – he’s in the process of writing me a piece – more to come!   He has many wonderful percussion pieces and Pagasus is just the tip of the iceberg!  Check out:  Ben Wahlund
